Fort Carson was created in 1942 to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The City of Colorado Springs, Colorado purchased land south of the city and giving it to the War Department. Construction began immediately, the first building, the headquarters of the camp was completed in January 31, 1942nd Camp Carson was named in honor of the legendary fighters of the army, Gen. Christopher "Kit" Carson, who explored much of the West in 1800.
