Would a portfolio with $250,000 long term U.S. government bonds be concerned riskless? - long term government bonds

No investment is still technically "safe" for the government to provide anything but standard. However, it is of course very unlikely, and government bonds are the safest investment, but often have lower interest rates and capital gains from mutual funds. But do not accumulate over a long period and are tax deductible, etc.
